Hygiene Appointments
A hygiene appointment is one of the simplest, most effective things you can do for your long-term dental health. We recommend most patients attend every six months, though your dentist or hygienist may suggest more frequent visits if you have a history of gum disease, wear braces, smoke, or have other risk factors that call for closer monitoring.

What happens during a hygiene visit:
Assessment
Your Hygienist/Dentist checks the condition of your gums, measuring for any pockets or early signs of inflammation, and reviews your overall oral health.
Scale
Plaque and tartar (calculus) are carefully removed from the tooth surface and along the gumline, using hand instruments and/or ultrasonic tools. Tartar can't be removed by brushing alone, so this step is essential even for patients with a great home care routine.
Polish
Teeth are polished to smooth the surface and lift surface staining from things like tea, coffee, red wine or smoking, leaving teeth feeling noticeably cleaner.
Personalised advice
Your Hygienist/ Dentist will talk through your brushing and flossing technique, flag any areas you're missing, and recommend products or interdental tools suited to your mouth.
Most patients feel little to no discomfort during a standard hygiene appointment, though those with sensitive teeth or more significant tartar build-up may notice some mild sensitivity, which usually settles quickly.
