Common Concerns for Parents
Thumb sucking and dummies
Most children naturally stop these habits on their own, but prolonged thumb sucking or dummy use beyond the age of 3-4 can sometimes affect how teeth and the jaw develop. Your dentist can advise if it's something worth addressing.
Teething
Teething can cause discomfort, irritability, and mild fussiness around feeding or sleep. Gentle gum massage, teething rings, and age-appropriate pain relief (if recommended by your GP or pharmacist) can help ease symptoms.
Dental anxiety in children
Some children feel nervous about dental visits, which is completely normal. Our team is experienced in working with anxious children and takes things at their pace, with a friendly, unhurried approach that helps build trust over time. Bringing your child along to your own appointments from an early age can also help normalise the experience.
Injuries to teeth
Active kids sometimes knock or chip a tooth. If this happens to a baby tooth, contact your dentist to check nothing further needs to be done. If a permanent tooth is knocked out entirely, time is critical, see our emergency dentistry page for what to do while you get to a dentist as quickly as possible.
